Amado Gonzalez Poster: Wine Land of America!
Amado Gonzalez Poster: Wine Land of America!
We were wandering around a thrift store in Kingsburg, the town known as “Little Sweden” near Fresno, when we found a collection of pristine, vintage posters from the California wine Advisory Board. That was maybe 20 years ago.
The artist, Amado Gonzalez, was born in Guadalajara, Mexico in 1913 and was known, among other things, for his work on the Coit Tower Murals and as an instructor at City College in San Francisco.
His illustrations during the heydey of print advertising in California capture all the optimism of the era, as well as the idea that California wines were on their way! Here’s to California: Wine Land of America!
Original 1960’s poster in excellent condition has been professionally framed in matte black metal and glass and measures 21” x 28.5”, with a depth of 1”.
